Scaling solutions across portfolios
Geothermal conversion
Rising district heating prices are strengthening the investment case for geothermal energy. The challenge is identifying which assets offer the right technical and commercial conditions for conversion.
Intervention
Slättö converted two older residential apartment buildings in Helsinki from district heating to geothermal energy, significantly reducing energy costs and CO₂ emissions.
The geothermal system was complemented by rooftop solar, providing on-site renewable electricity for the heat pumps and further strengthening the long-term resilience of the assets.
From pilot to programme
Slättö systematically screens its residential portfolio for geothermal opportunities together with a specialist supplier. Assets are evaluated based on technical feasibility, local energy prices and expected returns, creating a pipeline of commercially attractive projects.
When market conditions change, such as rising district heating prices, Slättö can quickly identify and prioritise the assets where geothermal conversion creates the greatest value.

Takeaway
Many energy solutions are applicable across multiple assets, but only a subset of the portfolio will meet the technical and commercial criteria.
